The Video game industry has been on an upward trajectory for some time now. Last year it showed impressive growth, due to the introduction of Work from home culture worldwide. Netflix is looking to showcase these changes with its Documentary on Gamers.
The Video Gaming Industry is now estimated to be worth $159.3 Billion in 2020, which is a sizeable increase of 9.3% from 2019.
The video gaming industry is showing no signs of slowing down. While there were almost two billion video gamers worldwide in 2015, this figure is expected to rise to over three billion gamers by 2023, whether it’s PC, Console or Mobile gaming.
Gaming is not just huge in the Asia Pacific as it has also gripped players throughout the United States. In 2018, gamers accounted for 66 per cent of the general U.S. population, up from 58 per cent just five years earlier.
While gaming is classically seen as a hobby of the young and the male, data suggests that the love of gaming is shared by young and old alike. In fact, it seems that female gamers will be a force to be reckoned with in the future as they made up 41 per cent of the U.S. gaming population in 2020, up from 38 per cent in 2007.
The most significant areas of growth are in Latin America and APAC, which are expected to grow by 10.3% and 9.9%, respectively, compared to 2019’s revenue figures. APAC is expected to be worth approximately $78 Billion in 2020
