The 19-floor Cecil hotel with 700 Rooms was first opened in 1927 in LA. It became a popular space with travelers because of its low cost and accommodation. As the year passed soon, it became the favorite destination of refuge for homeless people and sex workers, and the once-thriving business hotel slipped into decline.

In 2017 the Cecil Hotel closed its doors for public in preparation for major renovations. According to internet sleuths, those renovations were supposed to take 2-3 years.

The Cecil Hotel was rebranded in 2011 as Stay on Main. It was Sold in 2014 for $30 Million, before closing in 2017 for a total revamp.

The newly refurbed hotel is set to include a very fancy lounge, gym, and rooftop pool. Along with the Hotel, one portion will be allotted as affordable Flats to the public. Those renovations were supposed to take three years, with the hotel supposedly reopening sometime in October 2021. Since the Covid-19 and Lockdown came into existence, the renovation has been halted.

What Is The Connection between Elisa Lam and Cecil Hotel?

In January of 2013, Lam checked into the Cecil with plans to stay a few days in her LA Trip, but She never checked out. After 20 days, her body was found at the Water tank of Cecil Hotel. 

Since its opening in 1924, the Cecil Hotel has seen two murderers and 18 deaths. It’s also given shelter to at least two serial killers over the years. With the mysterious death of Lisa Lam attached to it, Cecil Hotel is bound to become a historical place for tourists.
